The Spear has become the quintessential defensive style. I changed the Spear's animation and stats quite a bit from what you may have seen in earlier versions of this mod. Not only that, there is also an upgrade for the Spear style: the Halberd. In vanilla Jade Empire you cannot learn how to use the Spear. Note that I'm not looking to powergame at this point, just to avoid nerfing myself by making uninformed or ill-informed choices. I see myself investing a fair amount of time in this, but I don't want to spend that time rerolling on account of poor decisions if I can at all help it. I don't so much as have the game installed yet, but does anyone present have any spoiler-free advice for a new player? In particular I'm looking for pitfalls that might not be obvious to someone unfamilar with the game, the sort of thing that doesn't seem disadvantageous early on but is likely to cause problems as I progress through the game.
On a whim, I picked up Jade Empire Special Edition today, since I've been looking for a new action RPG for a while now and it seemed kind of interesting. The Morning Stars are also the only weapon you can use against ghosts. That makes you as immune to weapons and support styles as ghosts are. While you wield these weapons you enter a state between life and death. This unique circumstance gives them some equally unique properties. For some strange reason - your heritage as a spirit monk may enter into it - these weapons ended up in the hands of a living being.
They were not forged by a living blacksmith, but a dead one. The Morning Stars are new weapons my mod adds to Jade Empire. These are the six gem armors my mod offer to players of Jade Empire. Weapons are most effective against human foes, such as bandits, pirates, or Lotus Assassins. However, the weapon is an exceptional weapon to use from a distance and one can switch to other styles to perform evasion tactics and snipe slow moving targets from a distance. Players without a large amount of focus can soon find themselves running out and unable to use any weapon style. In addition, Mirabelle drains focus far faster than any other weapon style.
You'll deal more damage, but I'm not sure if the damage/chi relation improves. Chi strike (every hit does more damage but drains chi) is a matter of choice and your attributes. Max damage and speed for one martial and weapon style of your choice. Regarding style points, this is the area where spending wisely matters the most. The fastest combo is Paralyzing Palm - Leaping Tiger, which takes 2.9 seconds. The best way to do this is to switch to your martial style while you are in the movement of your support/magic style.
